Shin-Koiwa Overpass

Shin-Koiwa Overpass is a modern elevated bridge that carries traffic across the Tatsumi intersection, connecting neighborhoods on both sides. It features a straightforward design with single lanes in each direction and was built using contemporary engineering methods.

Completed in 2007, this overpass became a turning point in Tokyo's approach to traffic management at major intersections. Its construction marked a shift toward faster delivery methods in infrastructure projects across the city.

The overpass represents Tokyo's commitment to urban infrastructure development, connecting the districts of Nishi-Shin-Koiwa and Higashi-Shin-Koiwa.

The structure sits near Shin-Koiwa Station and is easily accessible by public transportation. Being an elevated bridge, it remains open and passable regardless of weather conditions.

The project employed a design-build contract approach that allowed completion in just six months instead of the typical four-year timeline. This marked the first time Tokyo's government used this contracting method for such a large infrastructure work.
