Kenshin Kagemitsu, National Treasure tantō at Saitama Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore, Japan
The Kenshin Kagemitsu is a short blade with carefully crafted surfaces and inscriptions on both sides. The entire weapon displays the skilled craftsmanship of medieval sword makers.
The blade was created in 1323 by master swordsmith Kagemitsu during the Kamakura period. It later came into the possession of military commander Uesugi Kenshin and became a symbol of power.
The inscription 'Chichibu Daibosatsu' and Sanskrit characters on the blade connect regional identity with Buddhist traditions. These religious symbols show how craftsmanship and spiritual belief were intertwined in medieval weapons.
You can view this National Treasure blade at the Saitama Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore. The museum is located in Omiya Ward and is easily accessible to visitors.
The blade bears the signature of Kagemitsu from the Bizen Osafune school, marking exceptional craftsmanship. This signature is a rare identifier that gives the object authentic authority.
