The museum opened its doors in November 1966 in the former residence of Rakuten Kitazawa, a major figure who shaped the development of modern Japanese comics.
The museum maintains permanent collections featuring political cartoons and household comics that reflect the social and artistic changes in Japanese society.
Located at 150 Bonsai-cho, Kita Ward, the museum welcomes visitors from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm without admission fees, except on Mondays.
The establishment holds the distinction of being Japan's first public institution dedicated exclusively to preserving and displaying comic art.
