Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, Saitama

The Omiya Bonsai Art Museum houses more than 120 bonsai specimens displayed alongside woodblock prints and historical objects in dedicated exhibition galleries. The collection spans different styles and ages, revealing the range of this horticultural art form.

The museum opened in 2010 as the first public institution dedicated solely to bonsai, following the area's development into a bonsai cultivation hub after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1925. Growers had relocated to the region and established a specialized community there.

The collection reflects Japanese bonsai cultivation as a living craft passed down through families, showcasing the skill and patience required in shaping these miniature trees. Visitors can see how this horticultural knowledge remains central to the identity of the surrounding neighborhood.
