Hakugei, Steel roller coaster in Nagashima Spa Land, Kuwana, Japan
Hakugei is a hybrid roller coaster at Nagashima Spa Land featuring a track length of 1,530 meters and a maximum height of 55 meters. The ride operates three trains, each with six cars, that guide riders through three inversions and multiple hills.
The ride opened in 2019, replacing the former White Cyclone wooden roller coaster that previously occupied the site. This marked the first hybrid roller coaster of its type to be built in Asia.
The name Hakugei means White Whale in Japanese, referencing the famous novel Moby Dick. Visitors notice how the traditional wooden support structure blends visually with the modern steel track design.
The ride reaches speeds of 107 kilometers per hour and generates significant forces during inversions and descents. It is wise to secure loose belongings and allow enough time for safety restraints before boarding.
The ride features a striking 80-degree vertical drop that sends passengers plummeting at an extreme angle. This distinctive element makes the experience particularly memorable for many visitors.
