Shuttle Loop, Steel roller coaster at Nagashima Spa Land, Japan
Shuttle Loop is a steel roller coaster at Nagashima Spa Land that launches riders through a vertical loop before reversing direction. The track forms a complete circle that passengers navigate both forwards and backwards during a single ride.
This coaster was engineered by Intamin and manufactured by Anton Schwarzkopf during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Only twelve of this model were ever built worldwide during that production period.
The Shuttle Loop marks a significant engineering advancement in Japanese amusement parks, incorporating mechanical innovation with high-speed entertainment.
Visitors should expect to ride forward then backward through the same loop section. The entire experience moves quickly, so arrive early if the park feels crowded and you want a shorter wait time.
This is the last operating Shuttle Loop remaining in all of Asia and uses a flywheel launch system for rapid acceleration. This rare feature makes it a notable survivor from an earlier era of ride design.
