Moroto garden

Rokkaen combines Japanese and Western architectural styles across 18,000 square meters of land near the intersection of Ibi and Nagara Rivers.

The residence, built during the late Edo period, features architectural work by Josiah Conder, representing his only creation outside the Kanto region of Japan.

The traditional Japanese section includes tatami rooms and a pond garden, while the Western building showcases polygonal glass windows and a fourth-floor tower.

The garden opens from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with last entry at 4:00 PM, charging 460 yen for adults and 150 yen for junior high students.

The detached house, designated as a Tangible Cultural Property, contains a Muso window and functions as a tea ceremony room designed by master Sogo Matsuo.
