東光寺, Buddhist temple in Meguro-ku, Japan
Toko-ji Temple stands within a garden compound featuring traditional gates, bell tower, and multiple prayer halls dedicated to different Buddhist deities.
The temple played a protective role during the Tokugawa period as one of five strategic religious sites positioned around the perimeter of Edo, now Tokyo.
The temple complex includes a cemetery containing the grave of Aoki Konyo, the scholar who introduced sweet potato cultivation to Japan.
Visitors can reach the temple grounds through a 10-minute walk from Fudo-mae Station on the Tokyu Meguro Line in southwestern Tokyo.
The temple contains a sacred waterfall and pond created according to legend when a monk threw a vajra, determining the location for temple construction.
