Tokyu Kabukicho Tower, Entertainment complex in Kabukicho, Japan
Tokyu Kabukicho Tower is a 225-meter skyscraper with 48 floors in the center of Shinjuku, combining hotels, cinemas, theaters and dining establishments. The building follows a postmodern design with glass facades and vertical organization across multiple levels of use.
The complex opened in April 2023 on the former site of Shinjuku Koma Theater, which was demolished in 2018. Construction began in August 2019 and followed a plan to renew the historic center of Kabukicho with a new landmark.
The tower takes its name from the historic entertainment district of Kabukicho and houses performance spaces where theatergoers and concertgoers gather before shows. Restaurants on upper floors overlook the nighttime lights of Shinjuku, while basement bars and izakaya continue the traditional nightlife of the area.
The entrance sits directly at the busy intersection of Kabukicho and can be reached on foot from Shinjuku Station in a few minutes. Elevators connect the different floors, with hotel receptions in the upper sections using separate access points.
The interior displays works by 26 artists distributed across public areas, corridors and elevator halls. The food hall Kabuki-Yokocho on the ground floor groups ten restaurants around a shared walkway zone that recalls the narrow alleys of old Japanese markets.
