Tokhung-ri Tomb, Ancient tomb in Nampho, North Korea
Tokhung-ri Tomb is an ancient burial site in Nampho featuring two interconnected chambers with lime-plastered walls decorated with paintings. The structure displays typical characteristics of Goguryeo burial architecture.
The tomb belonged to an official named Jin whose death in 408 was documented through archaeological evidence. An inscription on the ceiling of the front chamber identifies the occupant.
The murals reveal scenes of daily life and religious practices from the Goguryeo period. They offer insight into the customs and rituals of this ancient society.
The site sits on the northern bank of the Taedong River near Mount Moran. It forms part of the Complex of Koguryo Tombs, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Excavations in 1976 uncovered a rare ceiling inscription that preserved the name of the person buried there. This makes it one of the few Goguryeo tombs with a known occupant.
