Seoullo 7017, Elevated linear park in Jung District, South Korea
Seoullo 7017 is an elevated linear park spanning 17 connected pathways across central Seoul at rooftop level. The structure features planted gardens, walking routes, public artworks, and rest areas with views over the surrounding districts.
The structure was originally built in 1970 as a traffic overpass for vehicles before being reimagined as a public park. This transformation marked a shift in how the city prioritizes space for pedestrians over vehicles.
The name blends Seoul with 'lo', the Korean word for road, reflecting how locals have adopted this path into their daily routines. People pause along the way to rest, meet friends, and take in views of the surrounding neighborhoods.
The park is accessible through multiple entry points near Seoul Station, with information centers and cafes distributed along the elevated pathways. Early morning or late afternoon visits tend to be less crowded and more peaceful.
The park contains around 24,000 plants from 228 Korean native species, arranged alphabetically by their Korean names. This systematic layout turns the garden into a living reference guide for local plant life.
