Dominican Church of the Holy Spirit, Baroque church in Old Town, Lithuania.
The Dominican Church of the Holy Spirit is a baroque church building made of brick in Vilnius Old Town with an impressive interior layout. Its inside features sixteen altars decorated with relief sculptures, elaborate ornaments, and numerous frescoes covering walls and vaults.
The building was damaged by multiple fires in the 17th century and required major reconstruction afterward. The main rebuilding between 1679 and 1688 preserved portions of the original walls and shaped the church's present form.
The church has been the spiritual center of the Polish Catholic community in Vilnius for centuries. Visitors can experience regular services held in Polish and feel the deep connection between this place and its congregation.
The building is located on Dominikonų Street in the Old Town and is easily accessible on foot. As an active place of worship, the church is best visited during open hours and outside of service times for the full experience.
The crypts beneath the church hold one of the largest collections of naturally preserved human remains from the 17th and 18th centuries. This solemn memorial preserves the memory of plague victims and others who were buried in this sacred space.
