Dainai, Residential district in southwestern Šiauliai, Lithuania.
Dainai is a residential district in southwestern Šiauliai composed of multiple housing blocks connected by Dainų street. The neighborhood is bordered by Mažosios Žaliūkės and Lieporiai districts, forming a self-contained residential area with typical mid-twentieth century apartment buildings.
The area was originally the village of Dainų before being officially transformed into an urban district in 1976. Extensive residential construction between 1977 and 1981 fundamentally changed the landscape from rural to urban housing.
The neighborhood is home to important educational institutions like Dainų Progimnazija and Šiauliai University Gymnasium that shape local life. Religious buildings such as the Immaculate Conception Church serve as landmarks that residents encounter in their daily routine.
The district connects to central Šiauliai and surrounding areas through fifteen bus routes, making travel straightforward. The Akropolis shopping center is nearby, offering retail options for everyday needs and services.
The neighborhood housed the former Nuklonas electronics factory, established in 1966, which marked the area's shift from farmland to industrial production. The abandoned factory building still stands as a reminder of the district's industrial past.
