Luxemburg tramway museum, Tramway museum in Hollerich district, Luxembourg
The museum houses a collection of vintage trams, buses, and public transportation vehicles from different periods of Luxembourg's history. Visitors can see full-size vehicles and scale models displayed across multiple exhibition halls throughout the building.
The collection began in the 1960s when city officials gathered transportation artifacts during the transition period when trams were replaced by buses. This effort preserved vehicles and equipment that would have otherwise been lost during this shift in urban mobility.
The collection features original uniforms, tickets, and thousands of photographs documenting how people moved around Luxembourg City since 1875. These items show the daily travel habits and the role of public transport in the lives of residents throughout this period.
The site is located on rue de Bouillon and welcomes visitors on Thursday afternoons and all day on weekends. Plan enough time to walk through the exhibition halls at a comfortable pace and view all the vehicles.
Two working electric trams and a life-size reproduction of a horse-drawn tram are on display to show how public transportation evolved. These operational vehicles allow visitors to see and understand the progression of transport technology across different eras.
