Mežotne hillfort

The archaeological site stands on an elevated position along the Lielupe River bank, featuring an 8-meter-high rampart reinforced with clay layers.

The fortification, dating from the 9th to 13th centuries, served as a major defensive structure for the Semigallian tribes, covering an area of 3,500 square meters.

The entrance path near the gates and tower contains original stone paving, while the ancient wooden buildings featured clay-plastered walls and grass-covered roofs.
