National Photography Museum, Photography museum in Ocean district, Rabat, Morocco
The National Photography Museum occupies the restored Burj Kebir Fortress, featuring exhibition spaces dedicated to photographic art and historical documentation.
The museum building, formerly known as Fort Rottembourg, was constructed between 1888 and 1894 under Sultan Hassan I with German engineering expertise.
The institution presents rotating exhibitions of Moroccan photographers, international artists, and archival collections that document the nation through different perspectives.
Visitors can explore permanent displays of vintage photographs, glass plates, and silver prints, while the museum shop sells limited edition prints.
Two original cannons from an 1894 set of twenty gifted by Hamburg remain on the fortress grounds, connecting military heritage with contemporary art.
