Russian Orthodox Church in Rabat, Orthodox church building in Rabat, Morocco.
The Russian Orthodox Church in Rabat is a place of worship featuring white walls and traditional onion domes characteristic of Eastern Orthodox architecture. The structure sits on Hassan II Avenue near Place Bab Tamesna and displays ornamental details adapted to its North African setting.
The building was consecrated on November 13, 1932, by Metropolitan Eulogius as the first Orthodox church under Russian jurisdiction in Morocco. It was established to serve the Russian émigré community that had migrated to North Africa during that period.
The interior displays religious artwork created by Moscow painters starting in 2011, covering walls and ceilings with Orthodox imagery. These paintings define the visual character of the space and connect it to Russian spiritual traditions.
The church sits on Hassan II Avenue near Place Bab Tamesna at the intersection of the Agdal, Akkari, and Kbibat neighborhoods. It is easily accessible on foot from surrounding areas, as it occupies a central location within the city.
Only three such churches operate across Morocco, making this one a rare testament to Orthodox presence in the country. It serves both the Russian-speaking community and visitors interested in religious history and architectural heritage.
