Eko Bridge, Road bridge in Lagos, Nigeria
Eko Bridge extends 1350 meters from Ijora on the mainland to the Apongbon area of Lagos Island, with a 430-meter section spanning the Lagos Lagoon.
The construction of Eko Bridge marked the first major project by Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, completed in 1975 under the approval of Minister of Works Shehu Shagari.
The bridge represents a central point of connection in Lagos, enabling the movement of people between the mainland communities and the economic center on Lagos Island.
During standard work hours, the bridge experiences substantial traffic as it functions as the main entry point for vehicles heading to Lagos Island from Apapa and Surulere.
Among the three bridges linking Lagos mainland to the island, Eko Bridge stands as the shortest, featuring a prestressed concrete design with girder construction methods.
