Oude RKZ, Municipal monument and former hospital in Groningen, Netherlands.
The Oude RKZ building spans multiple floors in a traditional Dutch architectural style, featuring distinctive red brick walls and large windows throughout its structure.
After its closure as a Catholic hospital in 1979, the building became occupied by squatters, marking the beginning of its transformation into a residential community.
The former hospital now functions as a cooperative living space where 250 residents participate in community activities, folk kitchens, and various artistic pursuits.
Visitors can join community dinners at the folk kitchen on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with meals served at 18:30 following a reservation.
The building evolved from being the largest squatted structure in the Netherlands to receiving official recognition as a legal residential community in 1986.
