Heimerstein, château néerlandais
Heimerstein is a castle near Achterberg in Rhenen, Utrecht province. The building has an L-shaped layout and was constructed in the late 1500s or early 1600s, as shown in drawings from the 1700s.
Heimerstein was first recorded in 1401 when it was leased to knight Arend Willemsz. van Egmont. The castle changed hands many times over the centuries and served as a residence and estate until World War II destroyed it, after which it was rebuilt in 1946.
The building is located at Cuneraweg 12 in Rhenen in a quiet, rural area. Since it now functions as a care facility, it is not open to the public.
The name Heimerstein is connected to a local legend involving a king named Heimo who played a central role in the story of Saint Cunera. This old tale gives the place a mythical link to its past.
