Asterdplas, Recreational lake in Haagse Beemden, Netherlands
Asterdplas is a recreational lake in the Haagse Beemden area featuring a beach with grassy sunbathing areas and marked swimming zones. The shoreline connects to walking paths that lead into the surrounding forest landscape.
The lake developed in a former wetland area north of Breda and was created as a recreational facility. A New Year's diving tradition for local residents began in 2016 and has become an annual local custom.
The lake serves as a gathering place for local residents, especially during warmer months when swimmers and water sports enthusiasts are most active. People come to sail, surf, and relax on the grassy areas, making it a social hub for the surrounding community.
The lake is open for swimming from April through September, with dogs and horses prohibited during this season. Motorized boats are not allowed at any time of the year.
The water sits within a transition zone to wetland areas and attracts diverse water bird species year-round. Coots, cormorants, moorhens, and swans are regularly spotted here, adding natural interest to visits.
