Huis de Torentjes, Late Gothic house in Sint Pieter, Netherlands.
Huis de Torentjes is a stone house in the Sint Pieter area of Maastricht, built from marl and brick and topped with gabled roofs on its shorter sides. A square tower rises from the structure, and the building sits along Lage Kanaaldijk street.
The house was built in 1526 under the name Beauvors, making it one of the older surviving residential buildings in the city. It was badly damaged during the bombardment of Maastricht in 1794 before eventually receiving protected monument status.
The name "Huis de Torentjes" means "House of the Little Towers" in Dutch, referring to the small towers that give the building its character. Locals and visitors passing through the Sint Pieter area today often notice how the towers make the building stand out along the street.
The house sits in the Sint Pieter area and can be reached on foot from the city center without much difficulty. As a protected national monument, the interior is not open to the public, so the building is best seen from the street.
The southern side wall dates to the 16th century and contains stone taken from the former Basilica of Our Lady and the old State House. These reused stones are still visible from outside, showing how earlier buildings were absorbed into new ones.
