Huis de Torentjes, Late Gothic house in Sint Pieter, Netherlands.
Huis de Torentjes is a stone house in Maastricht distinguished by a square tower and built from marl and brick. The structure features gabled roofs on its shorter sides and sits along Lage Kanaaldijk street.
The building was originally constructed in 1526 under the name Beauvors and later became a protected national monument. It suffered significant damage during the siege of Maastricht in 1794 when the city came under heavy fire.
This house served as a gathering place where residents of Maastricht met to discuss political matters and share their perspectives. The building was woven into the social life of the city, drawing people who cared about their community.
The house is easily reached on foot in the Sint Pieter area and sits on a main street near other historic buildings. Visitors should note that as a protected monument, the interior may not be accessible to the public.
The southern side wall dates to the 16th century and contains stone taken from the former Basilica of Our Lady and the old State House. These reused materials show how builders recycled parts of earlier structures into new constructions.
