Corio Center Heerlen, Commercial complex in Heerlen, Netherlands
Corio Center is a shopping complex with two levels containing roughly 29 retail shops and several food outlets in the heart of Heerlen. The structure forms a connected shopping area with practical design and entrances from different street sides.
The center opened in 1998 on the former site of the Staatsmijnen headquarters, which operated there until 1985. This shift from mining operations to modern shopping reflects a major change in how this location is used.
The name comes from Coriovallum, the Roman settlement that stood here centuries ago, keeping that ancient connection alive in the city's commercial hub.
The complex has ample parking available directly inside the building across multiple levels and can be entered from three different streets. Visitors find the main entrances easily from Saroleastraat, Honingmannstraat, and Stationstraat.
A regular weekend visitor is Dolf de Coriowolf, an entertainer who gives out balloons to children every Saturday throughout the complex. This tradition draws families who look forward to meeting him during their shopping visits.
