Het Fortuyn, Municipal monument windmill in Arnhem, Netherlands
Het Fortuyn is a tower mill from 1696 now located in the Netherlands Open Air Museum in Arnhem. The six-story building remains in active use for grain processing with multiple pairs of millstones.
The mill was built in Delft in 1696 and relocated to the Arnhem museum in 1920 as a replacement for an earlier structure. This move was part of efforts to preserve traditional Dutch buildings for the future.
The mill represents traditional Dutch milling techniques through its distinctive architecture and design. It shows how local craftspeople maintained these skills across generations of grain processing work.
The mill is located within the open-air museum and can be visited during regular museum hours. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the museum grounds are extensive and require considerable walking.
Between 2011 and 2012, the mill received major repairs to its foundation, cap, and sails, bringing it back to full operation. This restoration work returned the structure to its role as an active working mill.
