Cardamom Town, Themed area in Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park, Norway
Cardamom Town is a themed area in Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park made up of 33 buildings arranged to look like a fictional Norwegian settlement. Eight of these houses serve as overnight accommodations with two floors and complete home facilities including kitchens and bathrooms.
The area opened in 1966 as part of Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park, establishing itself as a core section of Norway's largest family entertainment destination. Its creation was driven by the desire to bring a literary world into a place visitors could physically inhabit.
This themed settlement comes from Thorbjørn Egner's children's stories and features places like a police office, a bakery, and a tram line that bring the narrative to life. Visitors walk through these spaces and notice how they recreate a fictional Norwegian town that holds meaning in local childhood memories.
Rental accommodations sleep between five and eight guests and include bedding, park entrance access, and fully equipped kitchens with bathrooms. The themed houses are most comfortable in warmer months, though the area operates year-round.
The area hosts theatrical performances during peak season that bring the stories to life with actors moving through the themed buildings. Many day-trippers miss these shows because they assume they are only for overnight guests staying in the houses.
