Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park, Entertainment complex with zoo and theme park near Kristiansand, Norway.
Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park is an entertainment complex with zoo and theme park in Kristiansand Municipality, Norway. The site covers around 60 hectares of natural forest terrain near the coast and combines animal enclosures with rides, water attractions, and themed areas.
The park began operations on 26 June 1966 and grew from a simple animal collection into Norway's largest leisure site. Since 2004, the Braganza family has developed the grounds through expansions and new installations.
The Cardamom Town section transforms Norwegian children's book themes into walkable scenes with buildings, performances, and characters from Thorbjørn Egner's tales. Children and adults meet figures here that have been familiar in Scandinavian families for generations.
Buses run from central Kristiansand directly to the park and make arrival easier without a personal vehicle. Combined entrance tickets cover zoo sections, rides, and water play zones and allow free movement between installations.
Specialized climate-controlled installations allow tropical species to thrive alongside Nordic animals despite Norwegian weather conditions. This combination lets visitors compare animal species from different climate zones within a single walk.
