Żary, Urban municipality in Lubusz Voivodeship, Poland
Żary is an urban municipality in Lubusz Voivodeship, western Poland, sitting on a plateau between two river systems at roughly 160 meters elevation. The town is crossed by two major regional roads and lies near a motorway linking larger cities.
Written records mention the settlement from 1030, with municipal rights granted in 1260. After a long period under German administration until 1945, the town became part of Poland.
The palace grounds combine formal garden elements with open lawns and paths beneath mature trees. Visitors can walk from the central market square through narrow lanes toward the historic buildings.
The two main roads provide good orientation within the town and access to key sites. For longer trips across the region, the nearby motorway offers fast connections.
The wooded area at the edge of town holds three separate towers that served different purposes. Visitors can choose between a fire tower, an observation tower, and the historic Promitz Tower depending on their interest.
