Święta Lipka, Pilgrimage site in Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Poland
Święta Lipka is a village between lakes Dejnowa and Wirowo in the Reszel district of Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship. The baroque church with its decorated cloisters stands at the center of the settlement and is complemented by an arcaded gatehouse.
The first written mention of the sacred site comes from a 1491 document by Johann von Tiefen, Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. The current baroque complex arose later in the 17th and 18th centuries through the expansion of the pilgrimage site.
The organ built in 1721 carries the signature of master Johann Mosengel and displays moving figures in the upper section during performances. Visitors can watch angels with trumpets raise their arms and small stars rotate as the music plays.
Organ concerts take place every Friday at 8 PM during summer months and allow visitors to experience the mechanical movements of the instrument. The interior of the church is accessible for visits during daytime hours, with the cloisters offering a quiet walk around the building.
The foundations of the church were built partially over marshland, which required special construction techniques to maintain stability through the centuries. This construction on unstable ground shows the determination of the builders to erect the site at this precise location.
