Święta Lipka Sanctuary

Święta Lipka Sanctuary is a baroque basilica with three naves, two bell towers, and extensive stone sculptures adorning its exterior and interior. The building displays ornate decorative elements throughout that create richly layered visual interest in every space.

Construction occurred between 1688 and 1693, replacing an earlier chapel that was destroyed during the Protestant Reformation in the 1500s. The new sanctuary was built to restore and strengthen the spiritual center that had been lost.

This site has drawn pilgrims for centuries seeking spiritual connection or prayer for healing and guidance. Visitors today light candles in the chapels and leave offerings, demonstrating how actively this faith tradition continues to shape the place.

Visiting is possible during regular opening hours, with guided tours available in multiple languages explaining the architectural features and religious objects. The best time to visit is outside major religious holidays when fewer pilgrims are present.

Inside works a pipe organ from 1721 that the organ builder Johann Josua Mosengel created, featuring moving angel figures. During music performances, these figures move and play their instruments, which often surprises visitors.
