Żmigród, Municipality of Lower Silesia, Poland

Żmigród is a city in Lower Silesia that sits on the Barycz River at roughly 150 meters elevation. The town lies about 40 kilometers north of Wrocław, the regional capital, and benefits from its position connecting to larger Polish centers.

The first mention of the settlement appears in church records from 1155 under the name Zunigrod. It gained official town status in 1253 under German law and went through various phases of growth and change after that.

The town displays architecture spanning multiple periods, from medieval times through the post-war era. The streets and buildings tell the story of long settlement and the many changes that shaped this community.

The town sits conveniently between Wrocław and Poznań with direct rail links to larger Polish cities. Its central position makes it straightforward to reach other locations in the region and enables longer journeys into the surrounding area.

The town is home to one of Poland's major railway testing tracks where new train technologies and railway equipment are put through their paces. This specialized facility makes it a notable center for rail development and innovation.
