Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Industrial city in Opole Voivodeship, Poland
Kędzierzyn-Koźle extends along both banks of the Oder River and consists of several districts connected by bridges and transport routes at roughly 180 meters elevation. The settlement combines residential and industrial zones spread across a large territory.
The merger of four independent municipalities in 1975, including the historic Koźle fortress from 1104 and Kędzierzyn village, formed the current administrative structure. Industrial development began in the 19th century and shaped the further growth of the settlement.
The District Museum displays archaeological finds and regional objects, while the preserved Jewish Cemetery holds numerous gravestones and monuments from the 19th century. The different districts still carry names that reflect their former independence.
The settlement has five railway stations and connects to the A4 motorway, offering direct links to larger Polish cities and abroad. The various districts lie partly far apart, so having a vehicle makes exploring easier.
The professional volleyball club ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle competes at the highest national level and represents the settlement in European championships. Several players also belong to their countries' national teams and train here regularly.
