Tomaszów Mazowiecki County, Administrative district in Łódź Voivodeship, Poland
Tomaszów Mazowiecki County is a powiat in the Łódź Voivodeship in central Poland, made up of the city of Tomaszów Mazowiecki and several rural municipalities. The Pilica River runs through the area, shaping much of the surrounding landscape.
The county took its current form in 1999, when Poland reorganized its local government system from top to bottom. Before that, the area had been part of older administrative units whose boundaries changed several times during the 20th century.
The county features a strong educational presence with several high schools and university branches that shape daily life in the area. These institutions draw students from surrounding regions and foster connections across the Lodz area.
The city of Tomaszów Mazowiecki is the main hub of the county and the most practical base for visiting the area. Travelers coming from Łódź can reach it by road or rail in a short time, making day trips easy in either direction.
Tomaszów Mazowiecki is home to one of the few indoor speed skating tracks in Poland built to Olympic standards. Athletes from across Europe come here to train and compete, which gives the city a reputation in winter sports that goes well beyond its size.
