Konewka Bunker, Military bunker museum in Konewka, Poland.
Konewka Bunker is a museum built around a roughly 380-meter underground railway tunnel in a forested area of Łódź Voivodeship, Poland. The site also includes underground passages, a former power plant building, and an outdoor display of military vehicles and cannons from World War II.
German forces built the tunnel during World War II to shelter trains and military equipment from air raids. After the war, the site was used by Polish military units before eventually being opened to the public as a museum.
The name Konewka comes from the Polish word for a watering can, which stands in sharp contrast to the military nature of the site. Visitors today can walk among original wartime vehicles and equipment displayed directly inside the tunnel.
Guided tours are available from May through October on weekends, and sturdy footwear is recommended as the tunnel floor and passages can be uneven and damp. Bringing a warmer layer is a good idea since underground temperatures stay low throughout the year.
A roughly 80-meter underground channel connects the main tunnel to the former power plant and can only be visited during summer. This passage shows how the complex generated and distributed electricity while operating in secrecy.
