Jurata, Coastal settlement in Gmina Jastarnia, Poland
Jurata is a settlement on the Hel Peninsula that juts into the Baltic Sea, surrounded by pine forests and coastal plants. The beach shifts between wide sandy stretches and areas where the forest reaches nearly to the water's edge.
The area began to develop in 1923 when a company leased land from State Forests to build a resort. This early start shaped how the place grew into a holiday destination.
The name comes from Jurate, a Baltic sea goddess from ancient stories of the region. This connection to old legends remains part of how locals relate to the sea that surrounds them.
The area has hotels, guesthouses, and vacation apartments with direct beach access and water sports in summer. Outside the warm season, many places have reduced opening times or close down.
In the 1930s, the place attracted artists like painter Wojciech Kossak, who came seeking inspiration. This period made it an exclusive artistic destination before it became widely known as a beach resort.
