Gmina Serock, Urban-rural municipality in Legionowo County, Poland.
Serock is an urban-rural municipality in Legionowo County situated between Warsaw and Legionowo, encompassing built-up areas and agricultural land along the Narew River. The administrative area connects 31 different settlements and serves over 17,000 people across the region.
The area grew from a network of medieval settlements that gradually expanded over centuries into its present form. In the 20th century, it became the formal urban-rural municipality that exists in eastern Poland today.
The town serves as a hub for surrounding villages, blending urban life with rural traditions that shape daily community activities. Local residents maintain connections to agricultural practices and village customs while accessing services in the central area.
The municipality is connected by public transport to Warsaw and Legionowo, with access to basic services including shops, schools, and clinics. Visitors should expect variation between densely built areas and rural landscapes, so it helps to allow time for exploration.
In 2021 a former landfill site was transformed into a solar energy plant called Sunny Serock that provides power to the local community. This project demonstrates how the region is reimagining abandoned sites as sources of renewable energy.
