Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, Industrial center in Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Poland.
Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski is an administrative center in Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship along the Kamienna River, situated between the Iłża Foothills to the north and the Opatów Upland to the south. Buildings stretch across both riverbanks, with residential neighborhoods and commercial zones interspersed with green spaces and smaller watercourses.
Jakub Gawroński founded the settlement in 1597 on the left bank of the Kamienna River. Janusz Ostrogski granted it town status in 1613, and over the following centuries it grew into a center for iron and steel production.
The Museum of History and Anthropology displays the evolution of metalworking and preserves evidence of local craft traditions. The municipal cultural center hosts regular concerts and theater performances that draw residents from across the region.
The town sits at the crossing of several main roads leading to Kielce and Radom, and can be reached by train as well as regional bus services. Visitors can walk along the riverbanks and get a good overview of the town center on foot.
The nearby Krzemionki Prehistoric Striped Flint Mining Region is a UNESCO World Heritage site preserving Neolithic mining structures from 6000 years ago. Visitors can descend into some of the ancient shafts and observe tool marks on the walls.
