Sobków, Administrative village in Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Poland
Sobków is a village in Swietokrzyskie Voivodeship in south-central Poland, positioned roughly 14 kilometers northeast of Jędrzejów. The settlement sits near the Nida river and contains residential areas with traditional buildings.
The settlement was founded in 1563 by Grand Treasurer Stanisław Sobek and received city rights that were withdrawn in 1869 under Russian administration. This change in status marked a turning point in the village's development.
The Saint Stanislaus Church began as a Reformed prayer house and underwent Baroque modifications that remain visible today. The interior reflects layers of architectural styles that tell the story of the place's varied past.
A railway station is located roughly three kilometers northwest and connects the village to the main line between Kraków and Kielce. Walking through the settlement is the best way to explore and get a sense of daily life and local architecture.
The Fortalicja sobkowska, a fortress built between 1560 and 1570, stands on the Nida riverbank with rectangular walls and corner towers. This fortification is one of the region's lesser-known Renaissance defensive structures.
