Kozłowa Góra Lake, lake in Poland
Kozłowa Góra Lake is a reservoir in Gmina Świerklaniec that covers about 5.5 square kilometers and sits along the Brynica river. The water is surrounded by forests, reeds, and meadows with gently sloping shores, and reaches an average depth of 2.4 meters.
The lake was constructed between 1935 and 1939 initially for military purposes as part of the Silesia defense line. After World War II, its purpose changed and a water treatment station was built to supply drinking water to nearby cities including Bytom and Piekary Śląskie.
The lake takes its name from Kozłowa Góra, a neighborhood of nearby Piekary Śląskie. Today it serves as a resting place for migrating birds and a nesting ground for protected species, making it significant for those who study and observe wildlife in the region.
The lake is easily accessible by car and offers opportunities for walking and fishing from the shore or by renting a small boat. The surroundings remain quiet and natural, though swimming and water sports are not permitted in the area.
The lake contains remnants of military bunkers and fortifications from its original defense purpose, visible as concrete structures scattered through the landscape. These historical traces serve as reminders of the site's role as a strategic defensive position.
