Kodeń

Kodeń is a village stretching along the Bug River, which forms a natural border between Poland and Belarus, located about 37 kilometers southeast of Biała Podlaska. The settlement has a linear layout following the river, with the basilica standing as its dominant structure.

Jan Sapieha acquired and fortified the settlement in 1511, establishing it as a town with Magdeburg law and considerable regional influence. This foundation shaped the place's long-term development and status.

The St. Anne Basilica houses a revered Marian shrine with a painted icon central to local worship traditions. This sanctuary draws visitors who gather for religious processions and feast day celebrations.

The village maintains regular bus connections to Biała Podlaska, with services running multiple times daily from the central square. Most sites of interest lie along the riverside street, making navigation straightforward.

The Church of the Holy Ghost, built in 1530, displays Belarusian Gothic style and originally served as the Sapieha family chapel. This architectural detail often escapes visitors' notice.
