Ossów, Historical battlefield village in Wołomin County, Poland

Ossów is a village about 18 kilometers northeast of Warsaw that served as a battlefield during a major conflict. It contains a museum displaying military artifacts and documents from that period, along with a cemetery and chapel that mark the site.

The village became significant in 1920 when Polish forces, including student volunteers, repelled a Soviet military advance in a key battle. This victory was a turning point in a wider conflict between the two nations.

The military cemetery here is marked by a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Victory, which overlooks the graves of those who fell. The site carries deep meaning for local people as a place where both Polish and Soviet soldiers are remembered together.

The museum on-site allows you to view photographs, documents, and objects from the period to learn about what happened. The cemetery can be explored at your own pace and offers a quiet setting to observe the memorials.

The cemetery holds a mass grave containing 22 Soviet soldiers placed alongside separate Polish military graves. This arrangement is noteworthy because it shows how both sides of the conflict are treated with equal respect.
