Galeria Szyb Wilson, Art gallery in Janów-Nikiszowiec, Poland.
Galeria Szyb Wilson is an art gallery and open-air museum in Janów-Nikiszowiec, a district of Katowice, housed in a former mining bathhouse. The building holds rotating exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, and installations in spaces that retain much of the original industrial structure.
The building was originally known as Richtofen and Hulda and was renamed Wilson in 1935 in honor of a United States president. After many decades of industrial use, it was converted into an art center in 2001.
The gallery occupies a former miners' bathhouse where the original industrial structure is still visible inside. Visitors can see contemporary works by Polish and international artists displayed in rooms that were once used by coal miners at the end of their shifts.
The gallery is in Janów-Nikiszowiec and can be reached by car or bus, with free parking nearby. Visitors with mobility needs will find assistance throughout the exhibition spaces, and guided tours in English are available on request.
The gallery hosts an annual Festival of Art Naif, an event dedicated to naive art that is little known outside the region but draws artists from across Poland. This recurring event has given the space a reputation that goes well beyond the city of Katowice.
