Trupielec, Mountain peak in Glichowiec Range, Poland
Trupielec is a 476-meter peak in the Glichowiec Range and forms the westernmost summit of this mountain chain. A long ridge descends from this peak toward the Trzemeśnianka river valley.
During the First World War, from December 1 to 5, 1914, Russian forces built fortified positions on the summit while facing attacks from Austro-Hungarian troops. The battles lasted several days as both armies struggled for control of this strategic location.
Archaeological excavations in 1934 revealed burial mounds from the 7th to 9th centuries at different elevations of the mountain, including one at its summit.
Several marked hiking trails cross the mountain and are suitable for walkers of different levels. The ascent to the summit is relatively straightforward to navigate, with clear trail markings that help visitors stay on course.
Local residents call the mountain Trupiarka, a name rooted in a 17th-century skirmish with Swedish forces. Animal remains from that conflict scattered across the forest became part of the mountain's local memory.
