Saint Nicholas Church, Gothic church in Gdańsk, Poland
Saint Nicholas Church is a brick structure built in Brick Gothic style with eight-sided pillars supporting vaulted ceilings throughout its interior. The western facade displays recessed panels and pointed pinnacles characteristic of the style.
Founded in 1185 as a modest Romanesque chapel at a merchant crossroads, the church passed to Dominican monks in 1227. It was subsequently rebuilt in Gothic style and became a major religious center for the city.
The Dominican community here shapes parish life through regular masses, lectures, and musical performances that weave faith together with local traditions.
The space is accessible throughout the week with regular services and programs held here. Visitors should be respectful during any religious ceremonies and check for special events that may affect access.
This building was the only religious structure in Gdańsk to survive World War II without sustaining damage. That rarity gives it special meaning among the city's many places of worship.
