Preachers' House, Mannerist townhouse in Old Town, Gdańsk, Poland.
Preachers' House is a Mannerist townhouse in the Old Town with a three-part facade on Katarzynski Street. The division creates the visual impression of multiple separate dwellings in Dutch architectural style.
The building was constructed between 1599 and 1602 under architect Anthonis van Obbergen. It originally served as lodging for Lutheran clergy from St Catherine's Church.
The Dutch-style facade carries an inscription from the Psalms about spiritual strength, reflecting Protestant faith in Renaissance Gdańsk. This message shows how religious beliefs became visible in the city's architecture.
The building now serves as a Regional Endocrinological Health Centre while preserving its historic exterior. Visitors can observe the facade from the street even though the interior is not open to the public.
Despite severe damage during World War II, the original facade remained standing and was fully restored in 1970. This restoration preserved an important example of Dutch architectural influence in Gdańsk.
