St Catherine's Church

St Catherine's Church is a Gothic brick building in Gdańsk's Old Town, featuring a 76-meter tower topped with a baroque spire designed by Jacob van den Block. The tower serves as a landmark that defines the skyline of the city's historic center.

The church was founded in 1227 by Pomeranian dukes and later underwent Protestant administration from 1555 to 1945 during the Reformation period. The building survived several fires over its long history.

The church holds sacred paintings that matter to believers, including the crowned image of Our Lady of Bolszowiec and the miraculous image of Our Lady of Trembowla from Lviv. These works reflect the spiritual life of the city and draw visitors interested in religious art.

Keep in mind that this is an active place of worship, so appropriate clothing and respectful behavior are required. The best time to visit is outside of service hours to view the interior and artworks without interruption.

The tower contains a clock with a rare technical innovation and a carillon of 50 bells. This auditory element makes the church a place where history and craftsmanship converge.
