Nowe Szkoty, Historical settlement in Wrzeszcz Dolny district, Gdańsk, Poland.
Nowe Szkoty is a historic settlement in the Wrzeszcz Dolny district of Gdańsk, spreading along Wyspiańskiego and Leczkowa streets with preserved buildings from its original layout. The area is defined by the Strzyża stream, which divides it into two sections and shapes how the neighborhood is organized.
Scottish settlers founded this community in the second half of the 16th century around a mill powered by the Strzyża stream. This settlement was part of Gdańsk's growth as a port city attracting skilled workers from abroad.
The neighborhood carries traces of its Scottish heritage in street names and the style of older buildings that shape its character. Walking through, one senses a community that has maintained its roots as a working settlement alongside the stream.
The area is easily reached by tram and the SKM railway station at Gdańsk Politechnika, which connects to the city center. When exploring, note that the two sections are separated by the stream and require walking separate paths.
Park nad Strzyża preserves the landscape of the former manor park and opened to visitors in 2001. This newer green space connects the neighborhood to its past as an estate area.
