Exaltation of the Holy Cross church in Pruszcz Gdański

The Exaltation of the Holy Cross is a Gothic church in Pruszcz Gdański featuring stone walls, buttresses, and ogival portals. A distinctive feature is a polygonal stair turret on its southern side.

Construction began before 1367 under Teutonic Knights rule, initially serving as a hall church. After destruction during the Thirteen Years' War, it was rebuilt as a basilica and took its present form.

The church displays typical Gothic features such as cross vaults with pear-shaped ribs resting on carved consoles. These architectural details shape the interior and reflect the craftsmanship traditions that were common in the region.

The church is located at Wojska Polskiego 2 street and is accessible through its three entrances. It continues to serve the local Catholic community while preserving its original structural elements.

During the 1462 conflicts, the local population used the solid Gothic walls of the building as a shield against military attacks. This defensive role during wartime made the church more than just a place of worship.
