Milicz Castle

Milicz Castle is a medieval fortified residence with elongated rectangular buildings constructed from stone and brick. The complex was originally enclosed by defensive walls, portions of which still stand today.

The castle began as an unfortified settlement in the 9th century before developing into a fortified stronghold. A papal bull in 1136 formally recognized its importance.

The castle reflects how medieval fortifications were transformed into noble residences across the region. You can see this shift in the different building styles layered throughout the structure.

The castle grounds are accessible and allow you to examine the surviving walls up close. A park area around the complex shows traces of the original moat system where you can walk.

The von Maltzan family controlled the castle for over three centuries, leaving a lasting mark on how the buildings were arranged and maintained. This extended ownership shaped its architectural character in ways visitors can still observe.
