Saint Lawrence church in Głuchołazy

Saint Lawrence Church is a house of worship in Głuchołazy featuring two prominent western towers with pointed windows and detailed stone carvings throughout its facade. A granite portal with stepped design leads visitors through a porch and into the main building.

The building was founded in 1250 and suffered severe damage from Hussite forces in 1428, after which it was reconstructed. A bishop granted the community a forty-day indulgence in 1452 to support the restoration work.

The church displays religious art forms from different periods, visible in its carved stonework and window designs throughout the building. Visitors walking through the interior can observe how various artistic styles were layered on top of each other over many centuries.

The building is centrally located at Kościelna 1 street and is easily reached from the market square in the eastern section of town. The site functions as the main worship center and can be easily included in a walking tour of the town.

Between 1729 and 1733, the medieval building underwent extensive redesigns under Bishop Francis Ludwik von Neuenburg. This intensive renovation period fundamentally changed its outer appearance and integrated Baroque design elements into the older structure.
