Hotel Kosmos w Toruniu

Hotel Kosmos was a four-story building with initially 78 rooms, later reduced to 59, and had dining facilities on the ground floor. Each room included a private bathroom and telephone service, while the restaurant received regular beer deliveries.

It opened in 1969 as part of the state-owned Orbis hotel chain and operated until 2007, before being demolished in 2008. The structure stood for over three decades as part of the socialist tourism offering.

The rooms featured the 366 armchair designed by Józef Chierowski, a key example of Polish modernist furniture from the 1960s. This design choice reflected how contemporary aesthetics shaped hotel interiors during that period.

The building was located in the city center and easy to reach, with access to pedestrian areas and nearby restaurants. The modern amenities like private bathrooms were highly welcomed features for visitors during that era.

The neon sign remained after demolition and was later integrated into the Skyway Festival in 2009. This relic became one of the few tangible reminders of the original building for the city.
